Quick Walk-Through the Downtown of Split

Quick Walk-Through the Downtown of Split

As we wrote earlier Split is a small town, one day is enough to visit Diocletian palace and entire city center.

Take a map of Split in one of the info tourist offices or at reception desk in most of the accommodations. On the map you will clearly see walls of Palace, Peristil square, Jupiter’s temple, Saint Domnius cathedral, Prokurative…

Don’t forget to visit basement of Diocletian palace it is really refreshing in hot summer day to go inside. You can find lots of imported souvenirs but there are few small shops selling hand made art. Go on one of the Split guided tours to find out what was going on in basements thousands years ago.

Have coffee break on Riva. One of the best bars is Fro, they have great coffee to go so you can sit on one of the benches on the promenade and enjoy view and sun like locals do.

If you are an shoppingholic there are many stores in the center. Marmont street is biggest street in center and most of the shops there are commercial ( Zara, Guess, Massimmo Dutti, O’Neil, Bershka…) Only designer store there is LEI LOU by Alex Dojčinović and there you can find dresses that has been seen on Oscar awards.

If you are curious about Croatian design clothes there are stores inside of Diocletian palace (Think Pink, Krug, Get Get Get and ID concept store). You will be amazed by some young designers work.

Besides the clothes you can find beautiful souvenirs like olive oil, fig cake, chocolate with lavander…all made in Croatia.

If you walk on northern gate of palace and rub golden thumb of statue of Grgur Ninski (Gregory of Nin) and make a wish, local people do it daily hoping their wishes will come true.

Don’t think to much where to spend your lunch break just get lost in the small streets and you will find one of the numerous little restaurants with delicious domestic food, house wine and desert made by some old recipe.
